Visiting the trains

The Gilbert Model Railroad Club is conveniently situated in the basement of the HD South Building, also known as the Gilbert Historical Museum. Visitors for the train display can access the basement entrance, which is located adjacent to the museum parking lot along Elliot Road. Upon arrival, guests are asked to stop by the front desk to pay for admission before making their way to explore the club's captivating HO scale layout.

Viewing Area (All Museum Hours)

The train viewing area is a delightful experience included with your admission. Simply inform the museum staff of your interest in visiting the train layout. From the gallery windows, visitors can enjoy a captivating view of the layout featuring Gilbert, AZ, and its surrounding areas. Don’t forget to press the button in the viewing area to watch the train gracefully pass through Gilbert—it’s a touch of magic that brings the display to life! Look closely at the viewing windows and you will notice they are from a passenger car.

Walk-through Tours (Saturdays Only)

Come on in and walk around. Check out the dioramas that represent the heritage of Arizona and the railroad. Club members are available to answer questions and give visitors a brief history of the railroad helped shape the history of the area.

Tuesday – Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays, Mondays and Holidays

Hours

The train layout is located inside the lower level of the HDSouth Museum. To access the lower level enter the white door covered by a small roof in the museum parking lot.
